On-going management

Effective software asset management is a continual process. You must look to continuously improve. That means constantly monitoring adherence to your company's software policy and ensuring your database is functioning smoothly and is populated with accurate information. If this sounds onerous, it shouldn't be as your audit tools and database should complete much of this task automatically.

Review of procedures
Nothing in business stands still. Your procedures were designed at a specific moment in time but your business is going to change. You need to make sure that your procedures can adapt rapidly to business change and continually refine the procedures to make the entire process as efficient as possible. Of course, it's prudent to perform periodic reviews to ensure that your procedures are being adhered to across your company.

Review of the database
Information in databases becomes inaccurate over time so it is advisable to perform spot audits on sample computers to ensure that the software data in the database concurs with the software actually on the computer. A similar process is required to make sure that all your license information is correctly stored and up-to-date

By monitoring every part of the process, you can ensure you are not exposed to legal or financial risk and reap all the benefits of software asset management.
